The reason your USB headphones don't work with PS2 games is because the USB ports are used exclusively by the internal PS2 hardware and therefore not available to the PS3 Game OS itself. Whenever you launch a PS2 title on a BC PS3 certain hardware peripherals, including the USB ports and the network interface, virtually detach from the main PS3 unit and attach to the PS2 subsystem, which allows you to use PS2 USB peripherals on games that support them.
